Paul Hastings is committed to providing a work environment that offers equal opportunity to all and reflects the diverse communities in which we operate.
Our approach is to hire, retain, develop and reward. We actively seek to recruit diversity candidates for lawyer and staff positions by reaching out to law students, liaising with networks and organizations, and conducting a thorough selection and interview process. And this approach is working: In national surveys, we continue to strengthen our rankings on the number of diversity lawyers in our firm.
We also seek to assure that all of our people have equal access to the best opportunities for professional development and growth. Our lawyer development programs are geared toward helping all of our legal professionals attain the excellence that our firm demands. Within that scope, we place extra emphasis on ensuring that our women and diversity lawyers participate in opportunities to develop professionally.
Diversity Representation
We continue to increase our diversity representation every year. Over the past three years, diversity lawyers (women, lawyers of color, openly gay and lesbian lawyers and disabled lawyers) have represented 26% of partners, 50% of associates and 60% of summer associates in the U.S. offices of Paul Hastings. Over this same period, diversity lawyers represented 26% of newly elected partners.
We also have 42 diversity lawyers serving in key management positions leading administrative groups, practice groups, offices and firmwide departments.
