The compensation and benefits structure reflects the firm's long-standing commitment to providing a highly competitive package for its associates.
Associates are compensated at a level commensurate with their experience and on a scale with other major law firms within their geographic regions. Please contact the Attorney Recruiting and Development staff in one of our offices for more detailed information.
Each associate receives a benefits package as well as relocation expenses. In addition, the Firm offers all new associates a generous stipend to assist with Bar Exam preparation, review courses and Bar application expenses.
Associates receive increases in base compensation and bonuses annually. Bonuses are paid based upon economic contributions and exceptional non-economic efforts. Associate base compensation increases in a lock-step progression each year effective February 1, the beginning of the Firm's fiscal year.
The Firm offers a $50,000 bonus for a one year clerkship and a $70,000 bonus for a two year clerkship payable to associates who join Paul Hastings immediately upon completion of a clerkship. In addition to the clerkship bonus, judicial clerks are eligible to receive up to one year of class credit for compensation purposes. U.S. Supreme Court Clerks are eligible for a competitive bonus and for class year credit. Judicial clerks are also eligible for a generous stipend to assist with Bar exam preparation, review courses, and Bar application expenses.
The Firm may offer advance class credit and a recruiting bonus to new and lateral associates in the Intellectual Property Practice who have relevant Ph.D and/or relevant patent agent experience at various law firms and legal employers. New associates may also be eligible for a $20,000 bonus upon completion of a JD/MBA or MBA degree when they join the Firm.
