Paul Hastings Continues Antitrust and Competition Expansion with Former Department of Justice Executive in DC

Washington, D.C. (June 1, 2012) - Paul Hastings LLP, a leading global law firm, announced today that MJ Moltenbrey, has joined the firm's Antitrust and Competition practice as a partner. Ms. Moltenbrey, a leading antitrust lawyer, joins from Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP, where she was a partner. She will be located in the firm's Washington, D.C. office. Her arrival continues the expansion of the practice, which has added three partners in Washington and San Francisco in a little more than a year: Thomas Brown, Holly House and Scott Hataway.

"MJ's near two-decade long tenure at the Department of Justice (DOJ) Antitrust Division, where she was involved in some of the most significant investigations and cases ever brought by the government, coupled with her ability to transfer that experience to representing some of the world's largest multinational clients, furthers our strategy to build a leading worldwide antitrust practice," said Michael Cohen, chair of the Antitrust and Competition practice. "Our group continues to make significant advances, adding experienced lawyers and gaining recognition for our work on complex deals, such as our representation of Samsung in the international merger clearance investigations into its $1.4 billion strategic alliance with Seagate Technology, named Matter of the Year by Global Competition Review," he added.

Ms. Moltenbrey's practice is focused on representing clients before the DOJ and Federal Trade Commission (FTC), state attorneys general, and in federal courts in connection with mergers, civil and criminal conduct cases, and administrative proceedings. She has helped guide numerous complex mergers through review by federal and state agencies, and successfully defended companies in civil government investigations involving matters such as intellectual property licensing practices, joint ventures, and alleged monopolization. She also represents clients in private antitrust litigation in federal and state courts. Ms. Moltenbrey was formerly the director of civil non-merger enforcement in the DOJs Antitrust Division. In that position, she was the Antitrust Divisions senior career official responsible for civil conduct investigations and litigation. During her 17-year DOJ career, Ms. Moltenbrey also served as chief of the Civil Task Force and as trial attorney in the Transportation Section.
