Our Japan practice has over 30 years of experience in providing a full range of multi-jurisdictional legal services.
Paul Hastings is one of the few foreign law offices to provide a full range of multi-jurisdictional legal services together with licensed Japanese lawyers (bengoshi).
Our Japan-based practice groups include:
- Mergers and Acquisitions, Private Equity, and Corporate practices that offer comprehensive legal counsel across the entire spectrum of domestic and international transactions in areas including banking, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, payment cards, and entertainment. Our corporate practice involves all major markets – Asia, North America, Europe, Brazil, Russia, and India.
- Internationally recognized U.S. Intellectual Property and IP Transactions and Licensing practices that handle complex transactions for Japanese and international technology and pharmaceutical companies.
- An award-winning Project Development and Finance practice that received an "Honorable Mention" from ASIAN MENA COUNSEL’s In-House Handbook 2011 and which Chambers Asia praises for its "extensive and profound knowledge of the field."
- A Real Estate practice that has been ranked in Band 1 in Japan for over six years by Asia-Pacific Legal 500 and which has advised on several groundbreaking "first-time" transactions, including the first rated securitization of Japanese mortgage-backed debt and non-recourse real estate loans completed in Japan and some of the first non-performing loan bulk auctions, acquisitions, and financings completed in Japan.
- An award-winning Employment Law Department consisting of U.S. and Japanese lawyers who have represented clients through all phases and types of employment litigation. We also have a dedicated anti-corruption practice that handles cases involving the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and U.K. Bribery Act.
- Litigation and International Arbitration practices that serve domestic and foreign parties before courts and major arbitral bodies around the world that involve multiple laws.
