Brett W. King is a banking and finance partner in the Paul Hastings Hong Kong office.  He represents banks, financial institutions, private equity funds and strategic sponsors in acquisition, project and leveraged finance transactions in Asia, including leveraged buyouts and structured M&A financings.  He has lived in Hong Kong for over a decade and has participated in some of the first U.S.-style leveraged buyouts to be completed in the region, including ASAT (Asia’s first LBO), Mando (Korea’s first LBO) and Tower Records (Japan’s first LBO).  More recent transactions include the LBO of Oriental Brewery (Asia’s largest LBO in 2009 to date); Maxis Communications (Asia’s largest LBO in 2007); CCMP’s purchase of Korean convenience store operator “Buy the Way”; CVC’s leveraged buyouts of Paperbox Holdings and PTP and Softbank’s purchase of Vodafone KK.

Mr. King received a B.A. and B.S. from the University of Minnesota in 1986.  In 1990, he received a law degree from Northwestern University School of Law and an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management.  In addition, Mr. King has received a PhD in Political Science and Public Law from the University of Chicago.
