Michael Lindsey concentrates his practice in intellectual property, cyberlaw and trade regulation. His intellectual property practice involves the acquisition, development, protection, and licensing of various forms of intellectual property. In the cyberlaw area, Mr. Lindsey represents diverse clients on matters ranging from domain name disputes to e-commerce structuring, new media development, co-branding, alliance and other marketing arrangements. His practice in the trade regulation area involves antitrust preventive counseling, franchise matters, and advice concerning the sale, distribution, and marketing of products and services, including manufacturing, joint venture, distribution, dealership, and agency agreements. His technology-oriented transactional practice focuses on mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures and other teaming arrangements in the U.S. and abroad.
Mr. Lindsey has authored or co-authored a number of legal articles and publications, including articles in Antitrust Magazine, Antitrust Counselor, Business Law International, Business & Technology Law Report, the Computer & Internet Lawyer, Franchising World, International Bar News, the International Business Lawyer, the Los Angeles Daily Journal and other legal and business publications. He is a co-author of The Intellectual Property Handbook: A Practical Guide for Franchise, Business and IP Counsel (ABA 2005), Annual Franchise and Distribution Law Developments 2003 (ABA 2003) and International Sales Transaction Checklist (IBA 2003). He also served as co-editor-in-chief of International Franchise Sales Laws (ABA 2006) and the treatise State Antitrust Law and Statutes (ABA 2d ed. 1999); and as editor-in-chief of the monograph Franchise Protection: Laws Against Termination and Establishment of Additional Franchises (ABA 1990).
Mr. Lindsey has been active for a number of years in various Bar organizations. Among other positions, he has served as chair of the Franchise Law Committee of the California State Bar Business Law Section and of the Franchise and Dealership Committee of the ABA Antitrust Law Section. He is currently Chair of the Computer & Internet Committee of the ABA Antitrust Law Section, a member of the Steering Committee of the International Franchise and Distribution Division of the ABA Forum on Franchising and a member of the Executive Committee of the Antitrust and Trade Regulation Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association. He is also a member of the ABA’s Standing Committee on Continuing Legal Education and that committee’s liaison to the ABA’s Standing Committee on Technology and Information Systems.
Mr. Lindsey speaks regularly before bar and business organizations on topics of intellectual property, electronic commerce, antitrust law, franchising, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and other subjects in his practice area. He has been interviewed by various media and cited by an appellate court for his electronic commerce work. Active in civic affairs as well, he currently serves as immediate past president and member of the Alliance Board of the Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History. Mr. Lindsey has been named a Southern California Super Lawyer by Los Angeles Magazine, and is listed in The Best Lawyers in America, the Guide to the World’s Leading Competition and Antitrust Lawyers and in Who’s Who Legal, The International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers.
Mr. Lindsey received his B.S. degree, summa cum laude, from Texas A&M University and his J.D. degree from Stanford Law School.
