Paromita (Mita) Chatterjee is an associate in the Litigation practice and is based in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office.
Her practice focuses on intellectual property disputes before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). In addition, Ms. Chatterjee counsels clients on protecting intellectual property rights, including conducting pre-litigation analyses and advising on offensive and defensive litigation strategies. She also has experience on matters in U.S. district courts and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
Ms. Chatterjee has been involved in more than 50 inter partes review (IPR), covered business method (CBM), and post-grant review (PGR) proceedings. As back-up counsel, she manages the preparation of written submissions, takes and defends technical expert depositions, and second-chairs oral arguments. Ms. Chatterjee's practice encompasses a wide variety of technologies, including mechanical devices, consumer electronics, chemical technologies, and pharmaceuticals, with a particular emphasis on medical devices.
Before joining Paul Hastings, Ms. Chatterjee was a patent agent and patent attorney at an intellectual property boutique firm where she gained significant experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications. She also worked at the Johns Hopkins University Technology Transfer Office.
Ms. Chatterjee devotes a portion of her time to pro bono matters. She has written briefs on behalf of veterans of military service before the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, represented clients in immigration court, and served as a Guardian Ad Litem for a young child in the D.C. Superior Court.

Paul Hastings was recognized as the Post-Grant Firm of the Year at Intellectual Asset Management's inaugural Global IP Awards. The award recognizes the achievements of the firm's Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) Team, which practices before the US Patent & Trial Office. Over the past year, the team's accomplishments include numerous post-grant proceeding victories for technology and life sciences clients - four of which were affirmed by the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
