An Irreverent Primer On The New Encryption Export Rules

On January 14 of the new millennium, the Clinton Administration finally responded to this ever-deteriorating situation, announcing what it probably intended as a new millennium in the regime governing the export of encryption products. These regulations, developed after years of continuous pressure from U.S. industry and others, unquestionably dramatically liberalize what have been extremely rigorous restrictions on encryption exports. No longer will U.S. companies need to obtain licenses to export some of their most sophisticated encryption products.
