
Overview
Bethany Krystek is an associate in the Corporate Department of Paul Hastings and is based in the firm's Washington D.C. office. She is a member of the Fintech practice and focuses on regulatory, transactional and compliance matters relating to bank and non-bank financial institutions, financial services and financial technology companies, payment networks and investment firms. Bethany provides routine guidance on regulatory issues within the banking and payments space, including on anti-money laundering, electronic payments, national bank charters, state and federal money transmission, state lender licensing, virtual currencies, stored value, cryptocurrency-related matters, and other state and federal statutes related to the provision of payments. She also advises financial and non-financial firms on issues related to economic sanctions and trade controls.
Bethany is experienced in advising clients on acquisitions and investments and in negotiating commercial agreements between parties in the global payments space. As part of her transactional practice, she prepares and negotiates agreements by and between banks, emerging companies, non-bank lenders, card networks, money transmitters, program managers and others within the banking and financial technology sector.
Bethany’s representative experience includes advising:
- AvidXchange in designing and launching a new iteration of its factoring program, Invoice Accelerator 2.0.
- Ceridian HCM in its launch of a National Trust Bank
- GTCR in its $18.5 billion majority stake acquisition of Worldpay
- GTCR in its $24.25 billion sale of Worldpay
- Integrum in its acquisition of MerchantE, a leading end-to-end payment platform, from Cielo, one of the world’s largest payments companies
- The Riverside Company in its investment in U.S. Cabinet Depot
Prior to joining Paul Hastings, Bethany worked as an associate at another global law firm, where was seconded to AIG and Citi.
