Overview

Teresa Scanlan is an associate in the Complex Litigation and Arbitration practice of Paul Hastings and is based in the firm's Houston office. Her practice includes all phases of commercial litigation before state courts, federal courts, and arbitral tribunals. She has experience in a broad range of breach-of-contract, energy, tort and environmental and government litigation matters.

Teresa graduated cum laude from Patrick Henry College with a degree in government and subsequently earned her law degree from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law. During law school, she volunteered in the Community Restorative Justice student group at San Quentin Prison, served as a board member of the Peer Wellness Coalition, and worked in the Veterans' Law clinic where she assisted low-income veterans with administrative law matters. Teresa joined the Air Force in 2017 and currently serves as a Staff Sergeant in the Texas Air National Guard, at the 147th Attack Wing in Houston, Texas. In 2018, she graduated from Air Force Basic Training as an Honor Graduate and graduated from Technical School as a Distinguished Graduate. Prior to her military and legal career, she traveled the country as a professional public speaker and pianist for nearly a decade, having gained her start after serving as Miss Nebraska in 2010 and Miss America in 2011.

Teresa was Nebraska’s first ever Miss America and also became the youngest woman to wear the crown since 1937. After winning the Miss America title in 2011, she embarked on a full-time professional public speaking tour, traveling 20,000 miles per month, lobbying Congress, regularly speaking on national TV and radio shows, and delivering over 100 keynote speeches. Teresa also served as a National Spokeswoman for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, the USO, and many other non-profit organizations.
