Overview

Jamila D. Smoot Burrell is an associate in the Structured Credit practice of Paul Hastings and is based in the firm’s Washington D.C. office. She has over 21 years of experience in the areas of derivatives and structured finance, including project finance, interest rate and credit default swaps, total return swaps, structured notes and other types of structured transactions using derivative products. She has worked with a variety of counterparty types across the U.S., Canada and Latin America, including mutual funds, pension plans, municipalities, corporations, hedge funds, insurance companies, securitization vehicles and banks. She also has experience with Spanish-and Portuguese-language derivatives documentation.

Jamila holds a J.D. from the University of Virginia and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts in both Mathematics and Spanish. Prior to joining Paul Hastings, Jamila worked at a U.S. investment bank and a global law firm, and as a law clerk for the Honorable Chief Judge Samuel G. Wilson of the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia.
