Overview

Brad Ritter is a partner in the Real Estate practice of Paul Hastings and is based in the firm’s Chicago office. Brad has significant experience representing public and private, equity fund, venture capital, private equity, REIT, individual and other clients in connection with all aspects of complex commercial transactions. He has led the negotiation and drafting of documentation with respect to the formation of joint ventures, like-kind exchanges, sale-leaseback transactions, financings, and the acquisition and disposition of commercial properties. He also focuses his practice on commercial leasing.

Additionally, Brad has represented numerous bankrupt debtors in the sale and refinancing of real estate assets, purchasers in the acquisition of real estate assets from bankrupt debtors, and various lenders in the restructuring and refinancing of debt secured with real estate assets held by bankrupt debtors.

  • Bain Capital LLC in the acquisition of Toys “R” Us for $7.4 billion.
  • Bain Capital LLC in the acquisition of Burlington Coat Factory for $7 billion.
  • Boise Cascade Corporation in the $1.65 billion sale of timberlands to Forest Capital Partners.
  • Code, Hennessy and Simmons LLC in the acquisition of 400 bowling centers from AMF Bowling Worldwide Inc. for $750 million.
  • Conseco Inc. in connection with the $700 million refinancing and the $1.4 billion sale of the General Motors Building in New York City.
  • Packaging Corporation of America, Inc. in the acquisition and sale of over 1 million acres of timberlands and certain other real estate assets for an amount in excess of $2.2 billion.
  • CenterPoint Properties Trust in the formation of the Chicago Manufacturing Campus, LLC in a joint venture to develop an automotive supply campus in Chicago.
  • Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. in the $600 million purchase of the Aladdin Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, out of bankruptcy.
  • TransHealthcare, Inc. in the sale and leaseback of approximately 50 health care facilities for over $50 million.
