Alexander Hyung-Joon Lee is an associate in the Litigation practice and is based in the firm’s Palo Alto office. His practice focuses on intellectual property matters with an emphasis on patent litigation.

Mr. Lee has prosecuted and litigated patents in a variety of high technology industries, including semiconductor, advanced manufacturing, new materials, display systems and software. He has experience with IP prosecution and litigation matters before courts, ITCs and patent offices in the United States, Korea, Japan and Europe. His expertise also extends to IP licensing and distribution agreements and trade secret protection. Mr. Lee has previously practiced in Korea as a Korean Attorney at Law and Korean Patent Attorney at top Korean firms.

Mr. Lee received his law degree from New York University School of Law in 2016 and from Yonsei Law School in 2012. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Seoul National University in 2007 and a Master of Art degree in Computer Science from Korea National Open University in 2019. Mr. Lee is admitted to practice law in California, D.C., and Korea and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and the Korean Intellectual Property Office.

Elm 3DS Innovations, LLC v. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (D. Del.): Defended Samsung in a patent infringement case involving 3D semiconductor technology

SecurityProfiling LLC v. Trend Micro (E.D. Tex., N.D. Tex.): defended Trend Micro in six-patent case involving vulnerability mitigation systems with firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, and virtual patching; successfully transferred case to N.D. Tex.; case resolved favorably after Federal Circuit upheld PTAB’s invalidity decision

Canon Inc. v. TCL Electronics (E.D. Tex.): represented Canon in five-patent case relating to smart TV and streaming technology; case settled after favorable Markman ruling and key discovery victories

In re Certain Telecommunication Systems and Components Thereof (ITC); Xtera, Inc. v. Nokia et al. (W.D. Tex.); NEC Corporation et al v. Neptune Subsea IP Ltd. et al (PTAB): represented Xtera in patent cases involving fiber-optic telecom technology in multiple forums, including as both complainant and respondent in multiple ITC investigations, in the district court, and at the PTAB; obtained favorable settlements with respondents and cases were terminated on the eve of hearing

Supercell Oy v. GREE, Inc. (N.D. Cal.): defended GREE in patent case involving mobile game app technology for sharing authentication information and providing update packages; all claims of key asserted patent were successfully invalidated via a patent ineligibility motion

Mobile Synergy Solutions, LLC v. AT&T (E.D. Tex.): defended AT&T in patent case involving social networking and user interface technology; case resolved favorably with pending patent ineligibility motion

Network Apps, LLC v. AT&T (W.D. Wash.): defended AT&T in patent, copyright, trade secret, and breach of contract case involving continuity technology for multiple devices; case terminated with pending Rule 12 and transfer motions
