David Bly is an associate in the Real Estate practice group of Paul Hastings and is based in the firm's Washington, D.C. office. His practice focuses on the representation of banks, private equity funds, and other institutional investors in commercial real estate transactions. Mr. Bly has significant experience representing lenders and investors throughout the capital stack, including mortgage financing, mezzanine loans, and preferred equity investments. Mr. Bly also represents investment banks and private equity funds in repurchase agreements, corporate credit facilities, capital commitment-backed subscription credit facilities, and commercial loans.
Prior to joining Paul Hastings, Mr. Bly was an associate at a national law firm and represented lenders in the origination, sale, and servicing of mortgage loans under Fannie Mae Delegated Underwriting and Servicing (DUS) and Freddie Mac Capital Markets Execution (CME) programs. Mr. Bly has represented lenders on a wide range of agency loans, including transactions with preferred equity and subordinate financing, ground lease mortgage loans, affordable housing, reverse tax-deferred exchanges, and cross‑collateralized properties.
Mr. Bly received his B.A. from Ohio University and his J.D. from The George Washington University Law School, where he was a member of the Federal Circuit Bar Journal, the Moot Court Skills Board and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Skills Board. Prior to Law School, Mr. Bly also earned his M.Ed. from Arizona State University while teaching 4th and 6th grade in Phoenix, Arizona as a Teach For America corps member.
