Overview
Kaylen E. Strench is an associate in the firm's Complex Litigation and Arbitration practice group, where she represents clients in high-stakes disputes across a range of industries. Her practice encompasses complex civil litigation, appellate advocacy and arbitration matters in federal and state courts nationwide.
Kaylen has experience at all phases of litigation, from pleadings and discovery through trial and appeal. She has served on several trial and arbitration teams, including a five-week federal jury trial resulting in a $35 million judgment. She has also drafted winning appellate briefs in the Houston Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Texas and has presented oral argument before the Dallas Court of Appeals.
Before joining Paul Hastings, Kaylen was an associate in the appellate and business litigation practice groups at another prominent law firm in Houston, Texas. She also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Catharina Haynes of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and to the Honorable Debra Lehrmann of the Supreme Court of Texas.
Kaylen Strench received her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, where she served as assistant managing editor of the Virginia Law Review. Prior to law school, Kaylen served as a Teach for America corps member in Houston, Texas, teaching 8th grade Language Arts.

Representations
- Representing the Ad-Hoc Board of Directors of Petroleos de Venezuela (or PDVSA, of the Venezuela Guaido Administration) in a federal bench trial relating to breach of contract allegations.
- Presented oral argument and submitted winning brief in appeal to the Dallas Court of Appeals, which resulted in affirmance of a $1 million dollar arbitration award.*
- Served on winning appellate team representing a Texas-based energy infrastructure company in appeal to the Texas Supreme Court which resulted in reversal of a multi-million dollar judgment and reinstatement of the client's counterclaim in a breach of contract action.*
- Won an appeal in the Houston Court of Appeals affirming a $300,000 sanctions award.*
- Represented a prominent engineering firm as embedded appellate counsel in federal jury trial resulting in a favorable judgment of approximately $35 million.*
