Overview

Peter Hegel is an associate in the Data Privacy and Cybersecurity practice at Paul Hastings and is based in the firm's Chicago office. His practice focuses on privacy regulatory compliance and data breach response. Mr. Hegel has extensive experience in building privacy safeguards and communicating with other stakeholders to ensure company-wide privacy compliance.

Mr. Hegel counsels clients regularly on protecting personally identifiable information and infrastructure as well as other issues arising under domestic data security and privacy laws and regulations, including the CCPA, CAN-SPAM, COPPA, TCPA, and GLBA cybersecurity requirements and breach notification laws.

Mr. Hegel received his law degree from the University of Chicago Law School in 2017, where he participated in the Kirkland & Ellis Corporate Lab Clinic as a student director. During law school, Mr. Hegel also served as a legal intern with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Illinois. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre and Legal Studies, cum laude, from Northwestern University in 2011. Mr. Hegel is admitted to practice law in Illinois.
