Paul Hastings Wins Financial Times’ Business of Law Award for Managing and Developing Talent

December 15, 2017

New York – Paul Hastings LLP, a leading global law firm, announced today that the firm won the Financial Times’  Business of Law Award for Managing and Developing Talent and was recognized as a top firm for innovation in the Financial Times’  North America Innovative Lawyers report. The firm also was recognized for innovation in the Litigation and Disputes category.

Paul Hastings was honored as the “Standout” firm with the Business of Law Award, and the #1 ranking in this category, for creating Career Pathways, a new approach to career progression.  Created by a joint Business Development and Talent Management team, Career Pathways addresses the demand from clients for greater value and for lawyers to fill new roles.

As the Financial Times explained, “In an attempt to tackle the failings of a pyramid model of training aimed towards achieving partnership positions, the firm altered its model to a more personalised approach. This allows lawyers to eschew promotion to partnership and incorporates secondments with clients and specialist training.”

Paul Hastings secured the highest overall ranking of any firm in the Business of Law Managing Talent category, with two winning innovations: the aforementioned Career Pathways program and the firm’s innovative approach to creating a more collaborative work environment.

The Financial Times also commended the firm in the Litigation and Disputes category for Paul Hastings’ representation of Braskem in a landmark global settlement with authorities in Brazil, Switzerland, and the United States. The $3.5 billion combined settlement with Odebrecht S.A., Braskem’s major shareholder, is the largest Foreign Corrupt Practices Act settlement of all time.

The honor from the Financial Times for the Braskem work follows the firm being named 2017’s Most Impressive Investigations Practice by Global Investigations Review and recognized with The American Lawyer’s Global Dispute of the Year: Investigations (Latin America) award.

The Financial Times’ Innovative Lawyers report is an annual ranking of innovative law firms, legal service providers, in-house legal teams and individual lawyers in North America.

At Paul Hastings, our purpose is clear — to help our clients and people navigate new paths to growth. With a strong presence throughout Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the U.S., Paul Hastings is recognized as one of the world’s most innovative global law firms.
