New York—Paul Hastings LLP, a leading global law firm, announced today that Joyce Xu, a prominent derivatives lawyer, has joined the firm as a partner in the Securities and Capital Markets practice. Ms. Xu comes from Simpson Thacher, where she was the head of the derivatives practice. She is based in New York.
“Joyce’s addition expands our capabilities in sophisticated capital markets, financing, and M&A transactions and furthers our strategy for growth in key markets such as New York, London, and Hong Kong,” said Seth Zachary, chair of Paul Hastings. “Joyce has distinguished herself throughout her career with a strategic, business-driven focus that has earned her the trust of her clients,” he added.
“I am thankful to have built strong relationships with wonderful clients who will benefit from having access to Paul Hastings’ global platform and from the firm’s commitment and dedication to excellence, innovation and client service” said Xu. “I’m excited to build a dedicated, full-service team to establish a global derivatives practice leveraging Paul Hastings’ cross-border reach and broad client base,” she added.
A seasoned dealmaker with close to two decades of wide-ranging experience in the global derivatives markets, Xu has been recognized for her high level of sophistication in anticipating and satisfying client needs for derivatives advice. She regularly advises on multi-billion-dollar derivatives deals and has structured and negotiated complex equity, interest rate, currency and commodity derivatives for market-leading global investment managers, banks, private equity firms, and multinational corporate clients.
The addition of Xu complements the firm’s Investment Management, Hedge Fund, Finance, and M&A practices, and further elevates the firm’s globally regarded Securities and Capital Markets practice. Most recently, the Securities and Capital Markets practice has been recognized for achieving outstanding client successes in the Equity Market Deal of the Year by Asian Legal Business and the Capital Markets Tax Deal of the Year in the Americas by International Tax Review.
Xu’s arrival follows the addition of Ira Kustin, Private Funds partner in New York; Kfir Abutbul, Private Equity partner in Houston; and several recent partner additions in London, including Regulatory and Fintech partner Arun Srivastava, M&A partner Roger Barron, Private Equity partner Anu Balasubramanian, and Privacy and Cybersecurity partner Sarah Pearce.
