San Francisco Restricts Employer and Landlord Inquiries Into Criminal Histories

San Francisco has joined the wave of states, counties, and cities who prohibit employers from asking about criminal history on an employment application. However, San Francisco has taken it several steps further by imposing a number of requirements not found in other “ban the box” legislation and by extending the prohibition to housing providers inquiring of applicants for affordable or below-market-rate housing.
