Real estate as an asset class has been at the heart of the current market turmoil in Western economies, notably in sub-prime and commercial mortgage-backed securities. Governments and the industry are working to put the sector and its financing back on more solid footing. The process has resulted in opportunities and issues in a number of markets beyond those immediately affected by the downturn. At the same time, the Asian real estate market has continued to grow and diversify.
