John S. Holley is an associate in the Intellectual Property practice at Paul Hastings and is based in the firm's Washington, D.C. office. His practice focuses on patent infringement litigation in the federal district courts and with the International Trade Commission. Mr. Holley has extensive experience in all aspects of litigation practice, including trial and ITC hearings.  His experience has afforded him substantial responsibilities, including frequently taking and defending depositions, arguing during Markman hearings, and cross-examining numerous expert and fact witnesses at trial.  Mr. Holley leverages his technical expertise and deep experience in patent litigation matters to provide strategic analysis crucial to bringing successful results to clients from the due diligence phase of a matter through trial and post-trial appeals. He has handled matters in a wide array of technologies, including software, display devices, telecommunications (including optical networking, 3G, 4G LTE, and ATSC-M/H), printer technologies, semiconductor devices, encryption, and medical devices.

Law360 recognized Mr. Holley as a "Legal Lion" for his work for Google on IPRs where the PTAB invalidated three of Blackberry Ltd.'s patents related to smartphone technology. He has also been listed as a Super Lawyers "Rising Star" from 2017 to present.

Beyond his deep background in litigation, Mr. Holley also serves as an independent evaluator for various patent pools. In addition, he has experience prosecuting patent applications and handling reexamination proceedings before the USPTO. Before practicing law, Mr. Holley gained experience as an electrical engineer at a large defense contractor working on the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter engine.

Mr. Holley is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, Texas, and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
