Recent Representations

  • Currently serving as lead trial counsel for the developer of the Millennium Tower in San Francisco, in litigation involving homeowner claims regarding settlement of the building and claims against adjoining property owners based on indemnity, negligence, and inverse condemnation.

  • Served as lead arbitration counsel for commercial real estate investment firm in dispute related to operation of Meet-Me-Room in data center located in downtown Los Angeles. Obtained full dismissal of action alleging business torts against client.

  • Represented a global bank in fraudulent transfer litigation against a borrower and its former CEO. After the court issued a writ of attachment against the defendants based on alter ego liability, the case was resolved on favorable terms.

  • Defended a global bank against a class action lawsuit based on alleged aiding and abetting the breach of fiduciary duties, in connection with a public company purchase of commercial real estate properties valued at $3.5 billion; after the court denied the plaintiff's motion for preliminary injunction, the plaintiff agreed to dismiss all claims.

  • Defended medical diagnostics company against claims that it underpaid royalties for use of its competitor's patent rights. Obtained a complete defense award in the matter, including attorneys' fees, against a claim valued in excess of $50 million.

  • Obtained complete defense victories in commercial arbitrations, and has successfully defended numerous unfair competition actions in California courts.

  • Currently defending a manufacturer of power generation and pollution control systems in a mass tort action filed in the United States District Court, Western District of Pennsylvania. The plaintiffs allege injuries relating to the operation of two nuclear fuel fabrication facilities.

  • Successful results for toxic tort clients have included the defense of claims against a leading aerospace company relating to the operation of rocket manufacturing and testing facilities. Mr. Meier developed a case management strategy in the litigation that led to the dismissal of more than 100 claims, as well as the dismissal of all class claims for property damage and CERCLA remedies (involving a potential class of more than 300,000 landowners). He has also obtained dismissals of unfair competition claims relating to the operation of hazardous waste disposal facilities in Southern California. 

  • He has counseled a Fortune 50 aerospace company in cost recovery proceedings with the DCMA and DCAA.
