American Lawyer Honors Seth Zachary as Law Firm Distinguished Leader

Seth Zachary, a partner in the Tax practice and chair emeritus of the firm, received the Lifetime Achievement: Law Firm Distinguished Leader of the Year award at The American Lawyer’s 2025 Industry Awards. The honor recognizes lawyers who have “transformed their firms” and “left an indelible mark on the legal profession.”
Seth joined Paul Hastings as one of two Tax partners in 1987 and became chair of the firm in 2000, serving seven consecutive three-year terms before stepping down in 2022. Under his leadership, Paul Hastings tripled its gross revenue and doubled its revenue per lawyer, expanded from nine offices to 21 worldwide and increased lawyer headcount by nearly 50%.
Seth’s leadership “reshaped Paul Hastings into the global firm it is today, characterized by excellence, collaboration and a forward-looking mindset,” firm Chair Frank Lopez told The American Lawyer. “His ambitious vision for the firm helped guide our path to the top of the market and redefine what it means to be a modern law firm.”
Seth has “set a strong trajectory for our firm that we are proud to continue,” added global managing partner Sherrese M. Smith.
