Paul Hastings Recognized by ABI for International Matter of the Year

November 05, 2025

The Paul Hastings Financial Restructuring Group has been honored with the American Bankruptcy Institute’s International Matter of the Year for our work on the landmark FTX Chapter 11.

The collapse of FTX, once the world’s third-largest cryptocurrency exchange, was among the largest financial frauds in U.S. history, leaving more than $8 billion in missing assets and millions of customers worldwide without answers. Representing the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors, Paul Hastings helped steer one of the most complex cross-border insolvencies ever, spanning the U.S., the Bahamas, Antigua, Japan and Europe.

From the start, unsecured creditors were expected to recover only pennies on the dollar. After two years of coordinated global litigation, asset tracing and negotiation, our team helped secure an extraordinary outcome with recoveries exceeding 150% on allowed claims.

Partners Kris Hansen, Ken PasqualeErez Gilad and Gabe Sasson and of cousel Isaac Sasson led the Financial Restructuring team, which included, among others, associates Jack Iaffaldano and Leonie Koch. Partners Chris Daniel and Eric Sibbitt led the Fintech team, and partners Frank Merola and Brian Kelly led the Corporate team.

ABI’s annual International Matter of the Year award recognizes the most significant cross-border restructuring matter from the past year, honoring the individuals and firms involved for their excellence from beginning to end, including a high level of professional expertise, creativity and skill.
