Emma Burri is an associate in the Intellectual Property practice of Paul Hastings and is based in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. Her practice focuses on complex patent litigation and appeals across the life sciences, medical device and technology industries. Emma has experience litigating high-stakes disputes in federal district courts and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, with experience spanning medical devices, biotechnology, computer-implemented technologies and other advanced technologies. Emma participated in the Federal Circuit Bar Association 2026 Mock Argument Program, arguing before panels of Federal Circuit judges and federal judges from across the country.

Prior to joining Paul Hastings, Emma served as a law clerk to Judge Kara Farnandez Stoll of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, to Judge Curtis Ivy, Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan and to Judge Kathryn A. Starnella of the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado. Emma also served as a judicial extern to Judge Thomas T. Cullen of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia for a year while in law school.

Emma received her J.D. from Washington and Lee University School of Law, where she served as the executive president of the Student Bar Association and as a member of the Journal and Civil Rights and Social Justice. She earned her undergraduate degrees in biology and history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
