Associate, Employment Law Department

Overview

Katharine (Katie) Waters is an associate in the Employment Law Department of Paul Hastings and is based in the firm’s San Francisco office. Her practice focuses on litigation and counseling on a wide range of employment matters. She has experience representing and advising employers in matters involving discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, retaliation and employee mobility, which includes issues concerning restrictive covenants and breach of contract, as well as trade secret theft and misappropriation. She also has experience conducting and advising on internal investigations.

Katie earned her J.D. from UC Hastings (now UC Law SF), magna cum laude and Order of the Coif, in 2022. During law school, she served as a notes editor on Hastings Law Journal, competed in Moot Court and published her note, “From Schoolhouse Gate to Locker Room Door: The Student Athlete’s Constitutional Right to Protest at a Public University Does Not Stop at the Hardwood.” She also completed a judicial externship for the Honorable Charles R. Breyer of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California.

Prior to law school, Katie earned her Bachelor of Arts in Geology with a minor in Spanish from Colorado College while playing four years of Division-Three Women’s Basketball. Katie is licensed to practice law in California.
