Overview

Jonathan Chan is an associate in the Intellectual Property and Technology Practice in the London office of Paul Hastings.

With a background in biochemistry and a keen interest in technology, Jonathan advises clients across several industries, with a focus on IP disputes and complex litigation in the life sciences and technology sectors. He has experience with coordinating multijurisdiction patent litigation, involving parallel proceedings the U.K., several European jurisdictions and the UPC. His practice also includes advising clients on the implications of technology-related legislation, including the U.K. GDPR and the Online Safety Act 2023.

  • Advising a major financial services institution in a trademark and breach of confidence action in the High Court of England and Wales.
  • Assisted a global life sciences client with coordinating high-value multi-jurisdictional patent litigation and providing advice on pan-European litigation strategy.
  • Represented a major life sciences client in a patent revocation dispute from pre-litigation strategy through to trial in the High Court of England and Wales.
  • Advised a life sciences client on its pan-European patent litigation in parallel with EPO opposition proceedings.
  • Acted for a major asset management firm with numerous IP-led transactions and provided support in the due diligence process.
  • Advised a multinational pharmaceutical client in a trademark clearance project in the U.K.
  • Acted for an international luxury fashion brand in the protection of its trademarks.
