Overview

Samuel M. Deau is an associate in the Litigation Department of Paul Hastings and is based in the firm's Washington, D.C. office. His practice focuses on representing corporate clients and individuals in high-stakes government investigations, complex criminal and civil litigation, internal investigations, and regulatory inquiries. He regularly represents individuals and corporations in sensitive matters from pre-indictment investigation through trial involving the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and other government agencies.

Sam has successfully defended numerous clients in federal criminal trials, including defending individuals accused of securities fraud, wire fraud, cryptocurrency fraud, healthcare fraud and other conspiracy charges. In addition to his trial advocacy, his experience also includes drafting critical motions, including appellate briefs filed in the Fifth Circuit, as well as an amicus brief in the United States Supreme Court. Additionally, he has led numerous internal investigations for clients in highly regulated industries related to allegations of financial misconduct, public corruption, medical billing fraud and national security issues.
