Overview

Kaoruhiko Suzuki is a senior counsel in the Corporate practice of Paul Hastings and is based in the firm’s Los Angeles office. Leading the Asia-Pacific practice, Mr. Suzuki commutes between the Los Angeles and Tokyo offices and practices in the field of international business and finance transactions. His practice is a broadly based corporate practice and revolves around the representation of Japanese businesses in their activities outside of Japan. He has a depth of experience in the formation and dissolution of cross-border joint ventures and other strategic alliances. His bicultural and bilingual background has permitted him to bridge the cultural and communication gaps between Japan-based and U.S.-based companies. His representation has also included mergers and acquisitions, including bank acquisitions, importation and distribution of goods in the United States, real estate investment and finance, and host of other areas.

  • A joint venture between Hitachi Construction Machinery and Deere & Company for a construction equipment manufacturing in Sao Paulo, Brazil

Engagement & Publications

  • Taught a Japanese law course for two years at the University of Southern California Law Center and, for a semester, an American law course at the Law Faculty of Seikei University in Tokyo, Japan
  • Lectured before the American Law Institute-American Bar Association, the International Fiscal Association, and other U.S. and Japanese audiences

Involvement

  • Co-founder of The Century of the Pacific Conference, a project to establish personal communications among young business and professional leaders in Los Angeles and Tokyo
  • Served as an editor for Japan Transaction Guide (published by Matthew Bender & Company) a comprehensive publication on Japanese law in the United States
  • Served as the vice chair of the Guide Dog and Service Dog Association of Japan since its foundation
