Paul Hastings Hosts Philanthropy Spotlight Series with USTA Foundation and Sloane Stephens

The Paul Hastings Philanthropy Spotlight Series recently welcomed the USTA Foundation to our offices during the US Open. This series highlights conversations with leaders from our nonprofit partners. Representatives from the USTA Foundation shared how the organization leverages tennis, as well as education and mentorship, as powerful tools to empower young people, foster the deeper engagement in school and learning, and help equip them for the future.

Partner Brett Lawrence led a discussion with USTA Foundation CEO Ginny Ehrlich and 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens in which they explored the USTA Foundation’s impact and its efforts to provide young people with greater access to programs that prepare them for life’s challenges and opportunities. In 2024 alone, the USTA Foundation supported more than 270 local organizations through the National Junior Tennis and Learning (NJTL) network, a nationwide initiative founded in 1969 by Arthur Ashe, Charlie Pasarell and Sheridan Snyder.

“Sloane and Ginny are making tennis available to over 170,000 participants each year. Their youth programs are about much more than tennis — they’re providing a structured environment and teaching life skills,” said Brett. “Paul Hastings is proud to support them and other groups that empower students through education.”

The USTA Foundation combines tennis and education to foster academic success, life skills and leadership nationwide. Through its National Junior Tennis and Learning network, the USTA Foundation reaches 165,000 youths annually by providing free or low-cost tennis and education programs that nurture future leaders. In addition to tennis, the USTA Foundation offers social-emotional learning, academic support, scholarships and grants to help young people grow into well-rounded adults who positively impact their communities.
