Overview

Nana Kwon is an associate of the Energy and Infrastructure practice at Paul Hastings and is based in the firm’s Seoul office. She has more than four years of experience advising on projects and project financings in the power, infrastructure, renewables, and oil and gas sectors.
Nana's clients include Korean, Australian and international developers, sponsors, project companies, asset managers, and export-credit and private-sector lenders.

Representations

Renewable Energy

  • The finance parties, comprising export credit agencies and commercial lenders, on the project financing of the 583 MW Greater Changhua 4 Offshore Wind Farm in Taiwan, as part of Ørsted’s 50% equity divestment to Cathay Life. This transaction was awarded “Asia-Pacific Power Deal of the Year 2024” by PFI Awards.*
  • The export credit agencies and commercial lenders on the project financing of Ørsted's 632 MW Greater Changhua 2 Offshore Wind Project in Taiwan.*
  • Korea Trade Insurance Corporation (K-SURE) and other lenders on the debt financing in relation to Ark Energy MacIntyre Pty Ltd’s 30% interest (held by way of an unincorporated joint venture) in the 923 MW MacIntyre Wind Farm, the largest wind farm in Australia and the Southern Hemisphere.*
  • Korea Midland Power Co., Ltd. (KOMIPO), Sprott Korea Investment Corp., Posco Eco & Challenge and PT Wampu Electric Power in connection with the successful refinancing of a 45 MW run-of-the-river hydroelectric power plant on the Wampu River in North Sumatra, Indonesia.*
  • The export credit agencies and a syndicate of international and Taiwanese commercial banks on the project financing of the 640 MW Yunlin offshore wind project in Taiwan. This transaction was awarded  “Asia Pacific Renewable Deal of the Year 2019” by PFI Awards, “Asia Pacific Offshore Wind Deal of the Year 2019” by IJGlobal Awards, “Overall ECA-backed Deal of the Year 2019” by TXF Awards, “Project Finance Deal of the Year 2019” by Finance Asia Achievement Awards, and “Energy and Infrastructure Project of the Year 2020” by Asia Legal Awards.*
  • Neoen in relation to the portfolio financing of the 203.5 MW Goyder 1B Wind Farm and the 200 MW/400 MWh Blyth BESS, which was the first baseload renewables financing in Australia.*
  • A syndicate of banks on Mytilineos/METKA EGN’s portfolio refinancing of the 110 MW Moura, 75 MW Wyalong and 53MW Kingaroy Solar Farms in Australia.*

Conventional Power

  • HSBC and other commercial lenders with the sale and transfer by Mitsui to Medco of its equity stake in the Paiton coal-fired power project in Indonesia.*

Oil & Gas/Chemicals

  • Lotte Chemical Corporation and PT Lotte Chemical Indonesia on the development and financing of a US$2.4 billion naphtha cracker project in the Banten Province of Indonesia. Lotte Chemical Corporation is one of the world’s largest chemical companies and part of the Korean conglomerate Lotte Group. This transaction was awarded “Oil & Gas Deal of the Year – Petrochemicals: LINE Project” by IJGlobal Asia-Pacific Awards 2023.*

Infrastructure

  • Aberdeen Global Infrastructure Partners Fund II (abrdn) and Macquarie Capital's Infrastructure and Energy Capital division (Macquarie Capital) on the legal aspects of the disposal of interests in Western Australian Schools PPP and ACT Law Courts PPP and advised abrdn on the legal aspects of the disposal of its interest in Perth Stadium, in each case to MM Capital Infrastructure Fund II, L.P.*
  • Asian Development Bank in relation to the funding of up to 800 telecommunications towers in the Philippines (the Ison Nationwide Digital Connectivity Project).*
  • Gaw Capital in relation to providing a 2nd lien financing in respect of a development project in Yeoju-si, South Korea.* 

Transportation Finance

  • Asiana Airlines, Inc. with a Balthazar insurance backed lease financing of two Airbus aircrafts, each delivered in September and December 2023.*

M&A and Joint Ventures

  • Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners in its acquisition of 500 MW Taean offshore wind project in South Korea, partnering with Vena Energy.*
