Global Arbitration Review Highlights Paul Hastings’ Arbitration Growth Across EMEA, Americas and Asia

June 23, 2025

An article in Global Arbitration Review (GAR) spotlighted Paul Hastings’ continued momentum in international arbitration and the firm’s recent integration of attorneys with significant arbitration experience across EMEA, the Americas and Asia. (“Paul Hastings hires in Abu Dhabi,” GAR, June 19, 2025.)

EMEA

As highlighted in GAR, construction disputes practitioner Ibaad Hakim left White & Case to join the firm in Abu Dhabi, adding extensive experience in the intersection of international arbitration with the energy and infrastructure sectors.

“One of several recent hires and promotions in the dispute resolution team … Hakim focuses on oil and gas, infrastructure and power projects,” GAR noted. The article listed several of Hakim’s high-profile representations, include advising Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi on construction-related matters relating to its 23-acre medical facility; an Abu Dhabi-based sponsor on an arbitration involving the construction of a hotel; the Saudi Arabian Oil Company on several major construction projects, including the Amiral petrochemical complex and the Dammam Stadium, one of the sites for the 2034 FIFA World Cup. GAR also noted that Hakim is qualified in England and Wales and Pakistan and speaks English, Hindi and Urdu.

The move follows the addition to our Paris office last year of Antonin Lévy and his highly regarded 12-lawyer disputes and investigations team. Lévy’s team bolsters our top-tier reputation in matters at the intersection of environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues and complex disputes and arbitration, across EMEA and in synergy with London partner and global practice co-chair Garreth Wong and the rest of our London team.

Americas

The firm also has continued to reinforce our strength in arbitration across the Americas. As highlighted by GAR, “Craig Stanfield joined as a partner in Houston as part of a team of four disputes lawyers from King & Spalding … Stanfield has handled AAA, JAMS, CPR, ICC and ad hoc arbitrations for clients in the energy, manufacturing, agriculture, consulting, environmental, real estate and hospitality sectors.” Stanfield works closely with fellow Texas litigation and arbitration partners Paul Genender and Manuel Berrelez.

GAR also noted the continuing flow of attorneys such as global practice co-chair Jonathan Hamilton, who like Hakim joined from White & Case, and the recent addition of talent based in New York and Washington, D.C., deepening our strength in disputes relating to the U.S., Latin America and Spain.

Asia

In Asia, as highlighted by GAR, Simon Hui joined the firm in Shanghai and Beijing from Baker McKenzie, “bringing more than 25 years of experience in complex cross-border commercial and investment arbitrations and investigations.” GAR noted that Hui has “handled cases under CIETAC, HKIAC and SHIAC rules, and is currently on the list of arbitrators for the Shanghai Arbitration Commission and the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration.”

The article also cited Sachiko Taniguchi’s recent promotion to of counsel in New York. “A Japanese national, she advises clients on cross-border disputes with an emphasis on matters involving Japanese multinational companies,” GAR said.
