Executive Order: Guaranteeing Fair Banking for All Americans

The president of the United States issued an executive order that calls on banking decisions to be “made on the basis of individualized, objective, and risk-based analyses.”

 

Executive Order: Democratizing Access to Alternative Assets for 401(K) Investors

The president of the United States issued an executive order directing the secretary of labor to revise guidance to permit investments in “alternative assets,” including:

  1. Private market investments, including direct and indirect interests in equity, debt or other financial instruments that are not traded on public exchanges, including those where the managers of such investments, if applicable, seek to take an active role in the management of such companies.
  2. Direct and indirect interests in real estate, including debt instruments secured by direct or indirect interests in real estate.
  3. Holdings in actively managed investment vehicles that are investing in digital assets.
  4. Direct and indirect investments in commodities.
  5. Direct and indirect interests in projects financing infrastructure development.
  6. Lifetime income investment strategies, including longevity risk-sharing pools.

Inflation Expectations Tick Up; Consumers More Optimistic About Taxes and Their Financial Situations

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s Center for Microeconomic Data released the July 2025 Survey of Consumer Expectations, which shows that households’ inflation expectations increased at the short- and longer-term horizons and were unchanged at the medium-term horizon.

CFTC Staff Issues No-Action Letter Regarding Event Contracts

August 7, 2025

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s Division of Market Oversight and the Division of Clearing and Risk announced they have taken a no-action position regarding swap data reporting and recordkeeping regulations for event contracts. This was in response to a request from the Railbird Exchange, LLC, a designated contract market, and QC Clearing LLC, a derivatives clearing organization.

Bank Rate Reduced to 4% — August 2025

August 7, 2025

The Bank of England released the Monetary Policy Report for August 2025 and announced that at its meeting ending on August 6, 2025, the MPC voted by a majority of 5-4 to reduce the Bank Rate by 0.25 percentage points to 4%, rather than maintaining it at 4.25%.
