Paul Hastings Advises Lennar Corporation on Hunters Point Redevelopment

August 04, 2010

San Francisco, CA (August 4, 2010) - Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker, a leading global law firm, announced today that a joint venture led by firm client, Lennar Corporation, one of the nations leading homebuilders, has received the final approvals to proceed with its Hunters Point Shipyard Phase 2 mixed-use redevelopment project. In a 10-1 outcome, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted in favor of the proposed redevelopment project.

The project, which has been ongoing for more than ten years, will be the largest of its kind in San Francisco in more than 50 years and includes the redevelopment of 702 acres of waterfront property to include, at full build-out, 10,500 residential units, 2,000,000 square feet of green tech space, numerous retail and recreational facilities, and a new stadium for the San Francisco 49ers.

Paul Hastings has advised Lennar and the joint venture on environmental and transactional matters related to this redevelopment, including the ongoing entitlement process for the project, and assisted with the drafting and passage of Proposition G, which provided the framework for the project and received overwhelming support from San Francisco voters.

San Francisco partner Charles Thornton led the Paul Hastings team, which included partners Gordon Hart and Bob McMurray, of counsel Beth Pennington, and associate David Hamsher.

We are delighted to be working with Lennar Corporation on this landmark project that will revitalize the Hunters Point and Candlestick Park neighborhoods of San Francisco, said Charles Thornton. All the players involved have worked tirelessly to see Lennars vision for this community take shape.
