San Diego and Shanghai – Paul Hastings LLP, a leading global law firm, announced today that high-profile, life sciences compliance thought leader and litigator Haiyan Tang has left her recent in-house position as Chief Legal and Compliance Officer of a leading private equity healthcare fund in China and rejoined the firm as a partner in the Investigations and White Collar Defense practice, based in San Diego. Tang will relocate to Shanghai in the near term.

“With the current global pandemic and new economic environment, the strategic considerations affecting clients’ litigation decisions are shifting, and they need experienced litigators to help them navigate complex investigations and disputes,” said Seth Zachary, Chairman of Paul Hastings. “Haiyan’s return further bolsters our government enforcement, investigations, compliance and litigation capabilities.”

Tang observed, “Building on my earlier experience at a major multinational pharmaceutical company, this chief legal and compliance officer experience, working as closely as possible with the business on risk management, will only enable me and the team to serve our clients that much better.” “And the Paul Hastings global platform and capabilities, culture of inclusion and collaboration, and spirit of innovation provide huge advantages to clients,” said Tang. “I am excited to rejoin my Paul Hastings colleagues and work with so many outstanding lawyers around the globe,” she added.

Tang is an accomplished litigation partner who focuses on advising multinational companies in their global government enforcement, investigation, and compliance matters and advising China-based companies in sensitive cross-border litigation and arbitration. Tang regularly advises clients in a wide variety of sectors, including life sciences and private equity, on their high-profile U.S. and Chinese government enforcement actions and internal investigations involving corruption, financial fraud, antitrust and competition issues, government sanctions, and trade policies. She is a top expert in designing and assessing compliance programs, having led the development of many sophisticated compliance programs for companies operating in the complex Chinese business environment. Tang has extensive litigation experience in the U.S. and has guided top companies to victory in high-stake cross-border litigation and arbitration.

The addition of Tang continues Paul Hastings’ strong lateral growth across its global platform. Over the past 18 months, the firm has welcomed more than two dozen partners, including new FDA partners Nathan Sheers and Peter Lindsay, Investigations and White Collar Defense partners Tom BestMatt Herrington and Jonathan Drimmer in Washington, D.C. and Shaun Wu in Hong Kong; Antitrust and Competition partner Camille Paulhac in Paris; Privacy and Cybersecurity partner Aaron Charfoos in Chicago; and Entertainment and Media Litigation partners Bo Pearl and Steven Marenberg in Century City; as well as welcoming Investigations and White Collar Defense managing director Nicola Bonucci in Paris.
