Susan Z. Williams and Cameron W. Fox Among Daily Journal’s Top Women in Law 2020
Susan Z. Williams is a partner in the Entertainment and Media practice of Paul Hastings and is based in the firm’s Century City office. She is co-chair of the firm’s Entertainment and Media Finance group. Susan was recognized for her experience representing clients in a variety of complex capital transactions, including distribution and co-financing agreements with major studios and international distribution companies, as well as sophisticated restructuring and bankruptcy matters within the film and television industry.
The Daily Journal profile highlighted Susan’s work representing Vine Alternative Investments in the French safeguard proceedings of EuropaCorp S.A., an independent European film studio. Susan successfully guided her client through complicated corporate and financial restructuring issues after having worked on the initial financing transaction several years ago. “We’re there at the beginning, and we’re there to help solve all the problems along the way,” said Susan. The profile also recognized Susan’s commitment to mentoring and serving as a role model to the next generation of female lawyers. “I’ve always taken that role very seriously,” said Susan. “It’s more important than ever, as we’re coming to some very significant truths about our society and where we’ve been, and where we want to be.”
Cameron W. Fox is a partner in the Employment Law Department of Paul Hastings in the firm’s Los Angeles and San Francisco offices, and is the Chair of the Los Angeles Employment Law Department. She has secured full defense verdicts in high-profile cases involving allegations of retaliation against whistleblowers and alleged discrimination for political and religious expression; obtained multi-million-dollar jury verdicts against employees who have stolen intellectual property; and handles sensitive #MeToo cases for clients.
The Daily Journal notes Cameron’s representation of Google and Alphabet in a major employment case over the lawfulness of the companies’ confidentiality, data security and conduct policies as applied to a workforce of about 65,000 employees worldwide. Cameron comments that it was “an unusual employment case, full of novel issues ... very much what I enjoy doing.”
