Barajas Honored For His Work on $300 Million Mexican Power Project Financing

Los Angeles, CA (March 7, 2005) - -  Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP (Paul Hastings), a leading international law firm, is pleased to announce that Dino Barajas, partner in the Los Angeles office, has been named California Lawyer  Attorney of the Year (CLAY) for his work on the financing of the Tuxpan V power plant.
Barajas received the CLAY Award in the energy category for his work on the $300 million financing of the Tuxpan V power plant.  Under the financing agreement, Mexican state utility Comision Federal de Electricidad awarded the build-own-operate contract for a 495 mega-watt gas-fired plant to a team of Mitsubishi Corp. and Kyushu Electric Power, marking only the second new Independent Power Project (IPP) deal in the country in 2003.  The landmark deal represented the first Mexican IPP in which financing was completed before construction.
"Dino is an extraordinary talent and he is one of the young leaders of our energy and projects  practice, said John Hawkins, Head of the Paul Hastings' Global Projects Group. "This award for our work on the Tuxpan V deal is a reflection of our ability to handle  complex, high-profile deals for international clients."

Dino Barajas concentrates his practice on representing lenders, investors, and developers in a wide range of domestic and international project financings in the energy, power, infrastructure and commercial sectors, as well as traditional banking, structured finance, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, asset finance, joint ventures and venture capital. His clients include commercial lenders, institutional investors, investment funds, project sponsors and public and private companies. He has worked on transactions in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guam, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, the United States, Yemen and elsewhere.
