Managing Hospitality Assets through the Downturn: Operations, Management, and Financing Workshop

The hospitality industry hotels, motels, resorts, clubs and related properties has been hit hard by the recession: occupancy rates are down, event bookings are down, the financing drought has reduced sales and other transactions, and carrying costs loom.

How can owners and managers of those assets weather the storm?

This advanced workshop will help by teaching registrants how to better manage their hospitality assets. A panel of industry experts in the field focuses on four areas of the hospitality business affected by the current downturn:

• Day-to-day operations, with a focus on cost containment, service requirements, and labor and employment issues;

• Brand management, contract provisions, and related performance management functions;

• Financing and restructuring alternatives through various stages of subperformance, default, and repositioning through the downturn; and

• Bankruptcy strategies (the sword vs. the shield)

• Attend to understand the key legal issues and possible solutions in each area, then see proposed solutions applied to real market case studies.

• The course assumes familiarity with the basic forms of hospitality operation and a working knowledge of typical industry documents and practices.
