Paul Hastings Teleconference: Disability and Medical Leave Forum

Wednesday, February 24 06:00 AM BST to 06:00 AM BST

As if the existing web of disability and leave laws werent enough of a challenge for employers, the new laws and regulations that went into effect in 2009 and those that will become effective in 2010 impose an even more complex regulatory scheme on employers. Worse, as employers seek to trim budgets, employees creatively use these laws to protect their jobs with often-spurious claims. Add to this the expected $373 million enforcement budget for the EEOC, a 6% increase over Fiscal Year 2009, and small and large employers can expect nothing other than an upsurge in disability and leave-related claims and litigation in 2010.

Because the new regulations significantly change the compliance landscape, understanding the new laws is the first step in avoiding litigation and mounting a proactive defense. Up-to-date knowledge regarding the rights and obligations of employees and employers, respectively, is crucial.

We are pleased to announce the launch of the Paul Hastings Disability and Medical Leave Forum. Join us as our disability and medical leave practitioners discuss hot topics in this area of the law. Our first complimentary one-hour teleconference will address:

  • Changes in disability law with the passage of the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA)

  • Military leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act and its 2009 expansions

  • The Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) and the EEOCs proposed regulations implementing the employment-related provisions of that new law

Subsequent teleconferences will discuss other issues at the heart of disability and medical leave laws.
