Italian Data Privacy Law: The Recent Decision on Google

In its decision on the 10th of July 2014 the Italian Data Privacy Authority ruled that Google’s data privacy policy was not fully compliant with the requirements and conditions set forth by Italian data privacy laws and asked the company to implement further specific tools for processing the personal information collected and stored through its different services. The Decision is highly innovative as the Italian Data Privacy Authority outlined specific guidelines which would need to be followed by Google in order to modify its compliance system to become compliant with the Italian Data Privacy Code. As emerged in the Google case, internal policies and procedures addressing data privacy concerns are critical components for companies operating in Italy and abroad and are therefore strongly recommended.
