Update Regarding New I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form
As indicated in the Paul Hastings' "Immigration News," dated November 12, 2007, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) released a revised I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form on November 7, 2007.  USCIS has advised employers to begin immediately using the revised I-9 form which is dated June 5, 2007. The USCIS website initially indicated that employers could no longer use the previous version of the I-9 form, dated May 31, 2005, after December 7, 2007. However, the agency has now issued revised guidance indicating that USCIS will publish a notice that provides employers with a 30-day transition period during which they will not be penalized for continuing to use the old form. The 30-day period will begin to run on the date the notice is published in the Federal Register. The notice has not yet been published. Once the notice is published, we will provide updated information regarding the date on which employers must cease using the May 31, 2005 version of the form.
