Report: Banks and the BIS Explore What a Retail CBDC Might Look Like

September 30, 2021

Seven central banks and the Bank for International Settlements issued a new set of reports that looked into users' needs, technological design options, and financial stability implications of retail or "general purpose" central bank digital currencies (CBDC). The reports conclude that for CBDCs to work effectively, public and private institutions need to cooperate: 1) to ensure integration with existing payments systems; 2) to anticipate customers' future needs; and 3) to support innovation while preserving public trust, privacy and stability in the broader financial system.

Report: Treasury's Federal Insurance Office Releases Annual Report on the Insurance Industry

September 30, 2021

The U.S. Department of the Treasury's Federal Insurance Office (FIO) released its Annual Report on the Insurance Industry. Under the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, the FIO must report annually to the President and Congress on the state of the insurance industry and any other information deemed relevant or requested.

Survey: Senior Credit Officer Opinion Survey on Dealer Financing Terms

The Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System published its September 2021 Senior Credit Officer Opinion Survey on Dealer Financing Terms. The survey collected qualitative information on changes in credit terms and conditions in securities financing and over-the-counter derivatives markets between mid-May 2021 and mid-August 2021.

Unemployment Insurance Weekly Claims Report Update

September 30, 2021

In the week ending September 25, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 362,000, an increase of 11,000 from the previous week's unrevised level of 351,000. The 4-week moving average was 340,000, an increase of 4,250 from the previous week's unrevised average of 335,750.

Commission Statement on Consulting Member States on Proposal on the Future of the State Aid Temporary Framework

The European Commission has sent to Member States for consultation a draft proposal to prolong the State Aid Temporary Framework until June 30, 2022, while setting out the path for the progressive phase-out of crisis support in light of the ongoing recovery of the European economy.

Financial Conduct Authority Director of Consumer Investments Supervision Debbie Gupta published a letter to chief executive officers (CEOs) of firms in the wealth management and stockbroking sector.
