Paris – Paul Hastings LLP, a leading global law firm, announced today that Nicola Bonucci, the Director for Legal Affairs for the OECD, will join the firm as a partner in the Paris office on 1 December.

“We are thrilled to have a statesman of Nicola’s stature join Paul Hastings as we continue to grow our top-tier Global Trade practice around the world,” said Seth Zachary, chair of Paul Hastings. “His reputation and track record at the OECD complement our existing highly-regarded cross-border enforcement and compliance practice.”

The OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development) is a 36-country coalition created to improve the global economy and promote world trade. Bonucci joined the OECD in 1993 as a Legal Adviser, and served as Deputy Director from 2000 until becoming Director in 2005. He is one of the most prominent international voices in anti-corruption and anti-bribery, leading the OECD efforts in this area for more than two decades. He has also been instrumental in OECD work related to international tax as well as leading the accession process of eight additional countries to OECD.

“I am very excited about the next stage of my career with a firm of the calibre of Paul Hastings,” said Bonucci. “I look forward to sharing my international experience with compliance programs, investigations, and anti-corruption issues across various legal systems, with their clients and partners globally. I also look forward to bringing my knowledge of intergovernmental and multilateral processes to the firm.”

Bonucci’s appointment follows other recent hires in the Investigations & White Collar Defense practice at Paul Hastings, including Jonathan Drimmer, Deputy General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer at Barrick Gold, Matt Herrington and Tom Best from Steptoe & Johnson LLP, and Peter Axelrod, U.S. Department of Justice Attaché for France and Monaco; and recent hires in the Paris office including corporate/private equity partner Charles Cardon and tax partner Bruno Leroy.

Paul Hastings’ Investigations and White Collar Defense practice includes senior defense lawyers and former enforcement attorneys from both the DOJ and SEC, and has played key roles in groundbreaking FCPA settlements over the last decade. The practice has handled investigations in more than 40 countries around the world, and is consistently ranked in the top 25 of Global Investigations Review’s (GIR) ranking of the world’s leading cross-border investigations practices. The firm was also named GIR’s “Most Impressive Investigations Practice”, and the practice and its lawyers have been recognized by The Financial Times, The American Lawyer, Chambers & Partners and The Legal 500, among others.
