April 26, 2021

Shanghai – Paul Hastings LLP, a leading global law firm, announced today that preeminent investigations and compliance lawyer Phoebe Yan has joined the firm in the Life Sciences and Healthcare Practice and the Investigations and White Collar Defense practice as a partner, based in the Shanghai office. Ms. Yan has advised a broad client network in the region and has a deep understanding of local practices and industry trends in Asia-Pacific. Following the recent addition of litigation of counsel Sarah Zhu in Hong Kong, Ms. Yan’s arrival adds further momentum to the strong performance and growth of our leading Life Sciences and Healthcare practice and Investigations and White Collar Defense practice in Asia-Pacific.

“In today’s complex business and regulatory landscape, our clients face intense litigation and investigation risks from both commercial and industry-specific perspectives,” said Seth Zachary, Chairman of Paul Hastings. “With her depth of expertise in providing regional and cross-border compliance counseling, transactional support, and investigations and enforcement advice, in particular to life sciences clients, Phoebe is a strong addition to our team, reinforcing our ability to deliver innovative yet practical legal solutions to our clients.”

Ms. Yan has more than 10 years of experience representing multinational clients and Chinese companies in investigations by U.S. and Chinese government agencies, involving anti-bribery, anti-corruption, whistleblower claims, conflict of interests, and other issues, with particular emphasis on life sciences clients. She regularly advises clients on anti-bribery compliance and investigations under the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), before the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), U.S. Securities Exchange Commission (SEC), and other regulatory authorities.

“Along with the launching of our specialized, cross-office Life Sciences Consulting Group and our FDA practice, the addition of Phoebe reflects our continuous commitment to serve our clients’ evolving legal needs, and further augments our diverse, competitive offerings to clients in China and across Asia-Pacific,” said Gary Giampetruzzi, the Global Chair of Paul Hastings’ Life Sciences and Healthcare Practice.

Together with partner Shaun Wu, Asia Head of Investigations and White Collar Defense, and of counsel Sarah Zhu in Hong Kong, and Shanghai-based partner Sophie Han, Ms. Yan will work closely with the firm’s global network to further bolster the practice across Greater China.
